Academic Warning and Probation

 

A student in good academic standing whose current semester GPA falls below 2.0 for any fall or spring semester will receive an academic warning notice. Academic warning is not recorded on the student’s official record. 

A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 at the end of a fall or spring semester will be placed on academic probation. A student may be enrolled in classes during a probationary semester. Academic probation is recorded on the student’s record. 

Students can experience academic difficulty at any point in their university experience, and we recognize that external factors often influence academic performance. As a result, we’re providing the following recommendations for students who need guidance on their next steps: 

Students can continue their enrollment for the upcoming semester while on Academic Warning and Probation, however, it’s important for them to contact their advisor to plan accordingly. An advisor or advising coordinator can help determine whether a revision of your schedule is needed and whether your current academic path is still appropriate. Additionally, your advisor can support you in developing a plan for success and guidance on leveraging student resources to overcome barriers impacting your academic performance. 
To enhance your academic performance, you are encouraged to enroll in UNIV 102- Academic Success for Lifelong Learning, which supports students in making a positive turnaround in their academic success. For additional support, students with an F-1 visa status are encouraged to contact International Student and Scholar Services for questions on how academic challenges impacts visa status.
