Desiree Sterling is the Coordinator for Pre-Transfer Advising at UMBC’s Office for Academic and Pre-Professional Advising. Prior to her role, she worked at Howard Community College and UMBC’s Erickson School of Aging Studies. Desiree is a member of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) and presented her research on pre-transfer advising at its 2023 national conference. At UMBC, she is heavily involved in various committees and initiatives in advocacy for prospective and current transfer students and also contributes to a wide range of campus communications.
After multiple semesters as an exploratory major, Desiree earned her B.A. in Media and Communications Studies from UMBC in Spring 2015 with a double minor in Dance and Psychology. She was also in the Humanities Scholar Program and completed a semester abroad at the University of East London. In Fall 2022, Desiree earned her Master of Arts in Texts, Technologies, and Literature from UMBC and recently began teaching college composition and literature courses part-time. Desiree currently resides in downtown Baltimore with her Bichon Frise (Ace) and her cockatiel (Carlito) and has been training and performing various styles of dance since age 10.
